Local environmental projects open for funding

Strategy for Nature Fund

The Strategy for Nature Fund was created with a powerful idea in mind: the Strategy for Nature isn’t just a government plan — it’s a call to action for the entire community. Achieving its vision requires all of us to come together and make a real difference.

That’s why the Fund exists — to fuel inspiring environmental projects that bring the Strategy’s goals to life. Each year, individuals, organizations, and students are invited to apply for financial support to drive meaningful change for nature.

Together, we can turn vision into action and build a healthier, more vibrant future for our environment.

The Nature Commission is a Guernsey charity that works with business, government, the third sector, and the public to enhance the Island's natural environment and promote greater native biodiversity. In particular, the Nature Commission is working to reverse the decline in biodiversity by protecting and enhancing Guernsey's natural environment for the health of our economy and well-being of our island community.

Project Information

The purpose of the Strategy for Nature Fund is to support environmental initiatives that further the goals and objectives of the Strategy for Nature by inviting individuals, organisations and students to apply for financial support each year.

Currently, a total of £40,000 is donated through the fund in the form of grants, with £9,000 of that dedicated specifically to a bursary for students completing graduate or post graduate degrees in a relevant subject with a commitment to carry out data collection for their research project in Guernsey and/ or Herm.

Any further contribution to this Fund, building on the currently available amount, will enable more support to be provided to projects and/ or students through the existing administration of the Strategy for Nature Fund.

Funding needed

Although this project already has an amount of £40,000 distributed to projects and as bursaries each year, there are more applications than currently available funding can support. This evidences the communities desire to support Guernsey's natural environment, but requires the approval panel to make difficult decisions regarding which applications will receive funding and which won't.

If your organisation wishes to make a contribution to the Strategy for Nature Fund, any amount can be offered. However, the larger your contribution, the more support can be provided to projects and/ or students through the Strategy for Nature Fund.

All administration of the Fund is managed in-house at the Nature Commission.
