Local environmental projects open for funding

Connecting Businesses with Nature Opportunities

The Project

'Nature Opportunities for Businesses' is a project that improves access to local conservation projects that require funding. Additionally, it improves access to educational and volunteering opportunities for staff to help local businesses better understand their impact on the natural environment and how they might work to address that.

Overview

In collaboration with other environmental organisations, the Nature Commission manages and maintains a menu of local opportunities. Through 'Nature Opportunities for Businesses', businesses can better engage and contribute to and with nature, improve their knowledge regarding the importance of our natural environment and how it links to business activities, and help partner corporations with environmental groups and projects to promote sponsorship needs.

The initial annual cost of this project is estimated to be approximately £10,500.

This amount may increase if the management and maintenance needs of the website increases, however this is hoped to be balanced with aspects of automation that can be introduced in time.

This cost includes:

  • admin time to process activity application forms from local charities offering opportunities
  • webpage management, maintenance, and updates
  • development of a quarterly Nature Opportunities for Businesses newsletter
  • development of automation processes to reduce future costs.

This project helps to progress against the following UN Sustainable Development Goals:

  • #9 industry innovation and infrastructure
  • #12 responsible production and consumption
  • #13 climate action
  • #14 life below water
  • #15 life on land
  • #17 partnership for the goals

In particular, the Nature Commission is working to reverse the decline in biodiversity by protecting and enhancing Guernsey's natural environment for the health of our economy and well-being of our island community.
