The Nature Matters series in the Guernsey Press brings local nature stories to life every month. Each article highlights the vital importance of our island’s biodiversity and explores why protecting our natural environment matters to us all.

Through inspiring stories, practical information, and ways to get involved, Nature Matters helps readers discover new opportunities to connect with and care for nature right here in Guernsey.

The Nature Commission is a Guernsey charity that works with business, government, the third sector, and the public to enhance the Island's natural environment and promote greater native biodiversity. In particular, the Nature Commission is working to reverse the decline in biodiversity by protecting and enhancing Guernsey's natural environment for the health of our economy and well-being of our island community.

Project Information

In collaboration with other environment enthusiasts, the Nature Commission leads the Nature Matters series in the Guernsey Press. This series provides monthly content on biodiversity, including education, activities, information sharing, and opportunities to connect with nature in Guernsey.

The purpose is to communicate with the public the importance of our natural environment and the amazing things being achieved by the third sector and others, to raise awareness of the issues of biodiversity declines, and to improve general knowledge about our local natural environment.

Content for future articles that are in the pipeline include:

  • the connection between good mental health and nature
  • showcasing the beauty of our marine environment
  • nature and the economy
  • learning about fungi and lichens
  • Bats of the Bailiwick
