Nature Commission welcomes funding
The Nature Commission is very grateful to the States of Guernsey for providing £15,000 which will be invested in public woodland and green spaces.
Enhancing and promoting Guernsey’s natural environment is at the heart of the Nature Commission’s work but our island was dealt a devastating blow by Storm Ciarán. This storm was the worst our island had seen in many decades and caused a huge amount of damage to our green spaces, with around 350 trees being lost in gale force winds.
Angela Salmon, Head of Operations and Education at the Nature Commission, said
‘This funding of £15,000 will help with the recovery of our island’s natural environment after the terrible damage caused when Storm Ciarán hit Guernsey.’
The Nature Commission will be discussing the use of this funding with partners in the charity sector to ensure the money is used appropriately and effectively. Examples of projects to be discussed will include woodland management, including tree planting, and enhancing public green spaces. It is important that the best possible use is made of this funding on projects that can be started soon, to help our island recover as quickly as possible.
