GBRC seeks new staff ahead of exciting relaunch
The Guernsey Biological Records Centre (GBRC) is looking for a Data Administrator to help lead the organisation into its next chapter, as it prepares for an official re-launch later this year.
The GBRC is the island’s living library of wildlife, holding thousands of records from Guernsey, Herm and their surrounding waters. It’s where decades of local nature knowledge come together – a vital resource for making informed decisions, supporting conservation, and providing education on our natural environment.
The mission of the GBRC is to collect, manage, and share information about our natural environment. By maintaining and building this evidence base, we can help protect and enhance Guernsey and Herm’s biodiversity. This will ensure that our wildlife thrives, for current and future generations to enjoy and benefit from.
The GBRC was lucky to be joined by Henry Lawrence in April this year as a Data Analyst. Henry has worked hard to get the GBRC up and running under the Nature Commission, transitioning to a new system, working with the Jersey, Alderney and Sark Records Centres, and planning for the re-launch. As Henry will be heading off next month to study a PhD (congratulations Henry!), we are looking for someone with a knack for inspiring community involvement, strong communication skills, and an understanding of the importance of data to join the GBRC.
The Data Administrator will play a central role in data management and sharing for the Guernsey Biological Records Centre. Key responsibilities include collating, managing, and distributing biological and ecological data, The role also includes collaboration across multiple stakeholder groups, locally, across the Channel Islands and wider, to ensure the accurate and reliable augmentation of the biological and ecological evidence-base.
